Gino Matanda Hates Magic

Gino Matanda is a 17-year-old Filipino American trying to earn his freedom before the system crushes him for good. All he has to do is finish magic school, complete community service, and stay out of trouble. But Gino is always one step behind because of his irregularity: he’s allergic to magic.

An Old Friend With an Offer

Toussaint “Saint” Michèl is Gino’s ex-best friend, former partner-in-crime, and the kind of person who can make a bad idea feel like fate. With him he brings a too-good-to-be-true offer: One job, one night, and one chance to settle old debts. But for Gino, one wrong move could cost him everything.

Another With a Warning

Ayesha Williams is, or was, the ‘big sister’ in Gino’s found family. As the former leader of the East Side Ghouls, she knows the back alleys of the magical city better than most. When she resurfaces, she doesn’t bring an offer, but a warning: Lie low. Run. Disappear. But, the last time Gino trusted Ayesha, he ended up arrested.

An American Shounen with Urban Fantasy Grit

Bloodrite takes the style of traditional shounens and mixes with the edgy, urban setting of New York City where the whimsy of wands and magic clash with the reality of street gangs. It takes characters straight out of urban classics, like Juice (1992), and draws from the emotional darkness and kinetic power of series like Jujutsu Kaisen, Tokyo Ghoul, and Chainsaw Man. Inspired by these hits, readers can expect Bloodrite to be filled with sharp action, shadow-heavy cityscapes, and supernatural intensity on every page.

Fantasy Drawn From Every Corner of the World

Fantasy has always leaned on the same European past — the same wands and wizards, the same castles, the same old magic. Bloodrite draws from everywhere else: ancestral traditions from across the world, woven into a modern, dark, and dangerous story. At its core, this is a story about belonging when you're caught between worlds — about outsiders learning that their roots were never something to escape. They're where the power was all along.
